Fantastic Four – Review – No Spoilers

So I heard nothing but awful things about this movie before deciding to go see for myself how good or bad Fantastic Four was. I’d seen the commercials and, other than the age of the actors, it actually looked pretty good to me. The caveat is I never read the comics, but I was a big fan of the cartoon back in the 90’s.

My thoughts? I liked this movie! The story stayed pretty true to the original, from what I remember of it at least, even counting that Sue was adopted. The brother/sister thing was totally there and I certainly had no problem with Johnny and the Dr. Storm being black. They were great actors for those roles, so why not?

I liked the action, I liked the actors, and I liked the story. Everything went really well all the way through. I realize this runs counter probably to every review you’ve read about this movie so far, but there you have it.

Now, despite the fact that I liked F4, I can see where (a lot of) people had problems with it. It wasn’t flashy and didn’t have the big names like Avengers. The movie itself is shot a lot ‘darker’ than the other Marvel movies. It’s not as fast-paced, even though the pace was perfect for the story that was told. And then there are the idiots/”purists” who thought having Johnny and Dr. Storm be black were a detriment.

All in all, if it’s still playing by you then you should definitely give it a go. It’s a fun movie that you should watch. 😀
